John Zebley Jr. - Utah artist/sculptor. I have loved art all of my life– from drawing and sculpting as a child, to being employed as Director of Design in an earlier career. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University-1992.
A big part of the training in industrial design, is creativity and fully developing your imagination. If I have any strength, it lies in my ability to imagine new and wonderful things. As these ideas take shape in clay then proceed to bronze, I hope to show a fantastic scene when the art piece is complete.
I have been fortunate enough to visit some very impressive places in the world. Some of my favorites have been Porsche AG museum in Stuttgart, Germany - the Corvette museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Pinninfarina design house, and Ferrari S.p.A. in Maranello, Italy. Being a car enthusiast has led me to sculpt automotive themed bronzes, inspired by the emotional connection of art on wheels.
I had been employed as an industrial designer/director for 15 years. During that time I was introduced to making life-sized clay models. I had a wonderful mentor who taught me many clay skills. I had, for a long time, wanted to sculpt…but with work and family responsibilities, never found much time to seriously concentrate on it. In 2006 the corporation I was working for underwent some major changes in leadership, which resulted in the disintegration of our design team. After much thought about what to do, we decided to move west. Although this was a difficult move we felt it was what was meant to be. During all of this I was regularly sending out resumes, yet was becoming more and more frustrated with how the design world was leading away from quality and creativity in corporations and instead leaning toward quick and cheap products.
One day I came to the realization that maybe I should be pursuing some other aspect of my talent. I had always wanted to sculpt and now I was in a position where I could pursue it full-time. I just so happened to be close to 3 foundries and went out and bought my first blocks of clay. I have truly found the career I love.
I hope to capture and convey that love in each of my sculptures and hope you can enjoy one of these in your home. Thank you for visiting my gallery and please return often as my sculptures just keep coming! |
